A couple of weeks have passed, and the Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has ended. Everyone around the world was anticipating this wedding, and wondered what the dress and cake would look like. We have seen the fairy-tale wedding take place, and it was wonderful. I have to admit, I was up at 4:30 a.m. EST to watch the festivities. The purpose of this blog is to provide highlights of the Royal Tea Party DC to celebrate the royal wedding.
What was the Royal Tea Party Tea DC?
Prior to the wedding taking place, three event professionals (Howerton + Wooten Events, Perfect Planning Events, and Exquisite Expressions and Events) decided to come together to have a local celebration with wedding professionals in the Washington, DC Metro Area.
The Royal Tea Party DC was held at Oxon Hill Manor on May 17, 2018. This was the perfect venue to capture the British charm for the event. All the guests were asked to dress as if they were attending a British Tea Party with Hats or Fascinators. There was even a Town Crier to announce the festivities at the garden party.
Also, I actually won the award for the 'Best Hat' contest!
The Wedding Cake
I must admit, I was anticipating the royal wedding cake. Since Megan (Duchess of Sussex) was American and very classic, I expected a modern wedding cake with greenery and florals. As a result, I created this garden themed wedding cake as my vision for the cake. I opted for something colorful to convey the feeling of spring. The cake flavor was Lemon Elderberry to mimic the actual wedding cake flavor from our custom cake menu. So Yummy!!! All of the florals were made of sugar (yes, even the lemons)!
As you can see, my interpretation of the cake was totally different from the actual cake (listed below). The couple opted for a buttercream wedding cake with fresh florals, which was a very minimalistic approach. This was very different from the traditional wedding cakes that we have seen in the past.
There were numerous local vendors that participated to make this event a success. Everyone was amazing!!! Make sure that you follow these vendors and use them for your next event. I have listed below each vendors Instagram information for your reference.
